Residential Services and Standards

- In Ventura, weekly trash, recycling and yard waste collection take place Monday through Friday, depending on where you live. (Click on the button below to find your pickup day.)
- Residents are required to recycle their food waste, bagged and placed in their yard waste cats. For details, click here.
- Carts should be out by 7 a.m. on collection days.
- Carts should be placed two to three feet away from one another and from objects such as mailboxes and cars, with the wheels facing the curb.
- Trash is limited to what fits in the cart.

Bulky Item Pickup
Ventura residents are allowed four bulky item pickups in a 12-month period, at no charge. Common bulky Items include:
- Broken or old furniture
- Water heaters
- Mattresses
- Old bathroom and kitchen fixtures
- Household appliances
Household Hazardous Waste Recycling
The city of Ventura’s Environmental Sustainability Division sets aside the third Saturday of the month (except during December) for Ventura residents to safely dispose of HHW at Gold Coast Recycling (5275 Colt St., Ventura). Appointments are required. Call 805-652-4525.
- HHW items include batteries (automotive and household), compressed gas/propane tanks (under five gallons), cosmetics (nail polishes, removers, etc.), fire extinguishers, light bulbs, non-narcotic drugs, paints, pesticides and fertilizers, pool supplies, used oil filters, and used or contaminated motor oil and gasoline.
- The quantity limit per visit is 15 gallons or 125 pounds of waste.
- The following items are not accepted at the monthly HHW events: fireworks; smoke detectors; radioactive and medical waste; explosive materials; compressed gas cylinders; tires; and trash.
Medical Sharps Recycling
Ventura residents can take their used needles and lancets (sharps) to the following locations for proper and convenient disposal:

Battery Recycling
Ventura residents can drop off their household batteries at the following locations. Check the sites for service confirmation and hours of operation.

Oil Recycling
Residential customers can take ABOP materials to Gold Coast during normal business hours. ABOP materials include antifreeze, wet cell batteries, dry cell batteries, used motor oil, and water-based paint. Normal hours are Monday thru Friday 5am to 7pm and Saturday 5am to 1pm.
