Harrison Industries will maintain its regular trash, recycling and yard/organics waste collection schedule in Ventura County for Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday, October 12, 2026. There will be no changes to regularly scheduled collection services. Customers should place their carts curbside on their usual collection day.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day is observed annually on the second Monday of October.
Regular Weekly Collection Will Continue
Harrison’s residential customers can place all three carts curbside every week, as Harrison collects trash, recycling and yard/organics waste weekly, including recyclable food waste.
All food waste should be placed in securely closed paper or plastic bags before being tossed into the organics waste cart. This helps prevent contamination because food waste and yard waste are processed separately.
Even if you only have bagged food waste and no yard waste, you can still place your organics cart at the curb for weekly pickup.
Make Food Waste Recycling a Weekly Habit
It’s important to recycle your food waste every week and establish it as a regular household habit.
In 2022, California began implementing statewide organic waste recycling requirements under Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383). Harrison customers play an important role in keeping food waste out of landfills.
Food waste recycling is required under California’s organics recycling program, but more importantly, it’s vital for the environment. When food waste decomposes in landfills, it releases methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.
Thank you for your role in the success of Harrison’s food waste recycling program. By making food waste recycling a weekly habit, we can all help reduce landfill waste and protect the environment.
